For April’s House, I wanted to focus more on the interior architecture than the exterior. Houses are kinda like cars – we judge how “nice” it is from the outside, but we spend 90% of our time inside, not outside. You see the inside of the house every day when you wake up and before you go to sleep, it surrounds you every moment you’re in the house, so it really does play a more visible role than the exterior architecure. Thus, this month’s house is a simple box on the outside, but a layered 1 Bedroom home on the inside. I stole the “reverse” staircase from a home I saw in Dwell magazine, i love how it functions as a normal staircase, but it looks like it’s upside down. I also incorporated an entire wall of bookcases, divded by a sliver of windows between the 2nd & 3rd floors. I like the idea of being able to be in the Master Bedroom and look down at who is at the front door, or what’s going on in the dining room.
